On Monday, November 21st, Ms. Davis (R-P College Advisor) and Mr. Schlaff (R-PHS Counselor) brought 44 high school students to visit Grand Valley State University. Students were greeted by GVSU Admissions Staff members and given an informational presentation, followed by a Question and Answer period with three Grand Valley Students. Next, these three Grand Valley students were assigned a group of R-P students, and commenced with a walking tour of campus. R-P students were brought to many buildings, such as the freshman dorms (a.k.a. “Freshmanland”), the library, the science building, the field house, and several eateries. At noon, students were treated to a free lunch at one of the campus cafeterias, putting the “all you can eat” policy to the test!
It was a great visit for these students, as Grand Valley is historically the most attended four-year college by R-P students. Some of the students were overheard saying:
“Grand Valley wasn’t really on my radar, but now I want to put in my application.”
“The people here are really friendly.”
“I could see myself going to school here.”
“Everything is so new. I really loved how studious everyone seemed to be.”
“The food was good!”

A special treat came in the form of GVSU men’s assistant basketball coach (and R-P grad!), J.R. Wallace meeting up with our students. J.R. is the all-time scoring leader in R-P history and one of two basketball players to have their jersey retired at R-P. J.R. is pictured with senior, Artrese Williams below.
