The school year was 1990-91. Reeths-Puffer High School in 1990-91 is now known as Reeths-Puffer Intermediate School. The “Jungle” was the name given to the high school student section during the 1990-91 school year.
You’ve probably heard of “Throw-Back Thursdays” on various social media sites. We staged a “Throw-Back Hoops” night involving two long-time Seaway Conference teams (Spring Lake and R-P). Spring Lake and R-P began competing in the Seaway Conference in 1965. Their last season as members of the now disbanded Seaway Conference was 1994. The Seaway Conference stands as the conference that R-P has been affiliated with the longest.
Our head coach, Mr. Lance Johnson is a graduate of Spring Lake but never had the opportunity to compete against the Rockets in the “old” high school gym. What a great opportunity this event provided for him, to coach against his high school basketball coach and school!
The night was filled with the sounds of our jazz band who, back in 1990-91, was directed by Mr. Chuck Hodson, current jazz band teacher. Mr. Hodson pulled out the tunes of the day which included “Eye of the Tiger” which was the song our team warmed up to.
The “old” gym was filled and all patrons enjoyed two varsity games between two proud basketball programs. The night ended with each team winning one game.
Thanks go out to Mr. Lane for the photos shared below that captured some of the action of the night.
