Upcycled Art is the process of finding discarded materials and transforming them from their original use to functional works of art.
Students re-purpose discarded items to create functional works of art. Students locate art materials, re-purpose the items, and advertise the items for sale on sites like ebay and ETSY. This class unifies traditional artistic skills with real world practicality. Students learn the skills necessary to be a part of an artistic, business team, marrying business sense and bottom line with artistry and aesthetics.
The bench presented above was made by senior, Noel Sheffer and art teacher, Mr. Jeff Hellmann. The class has started a raffle (tickets are $5.00) and will draw the winning ticket in early December. Tickets can be purchased through the art department (see Mr. Hellmann or Mr. Olson) and Mr. Beckeman’s office at the high school. All proceeds from the raffle go right back into the class to secure more supplies for our art students.
